This wordless graphic novel has some of the most beautiful illustrations I’ve ever seen. While I was ‘reading’ it I wanted to show all the pictures to everybody in my family. Even though there’s no text, The Arrival speaks volumes with it’s story of a man leaving his wife and daughter to immigrant to a strange land whose customs he’s entirely unfamiliar with. Even though it draws inspiration from real issues, the social commentary is delivered through haunting and surreal imagery- dreamlike cityscapes, symbolic fantasy scenes, and strange creatures. This is an amazing book and I recommend it to readers of all ages.
