The One and Only Bob takes place right after the previous book left off, and tells the story of lovable gorilla Ivan’s best friend Bob, a mutt of uncertain lineage. Ivan and his friends’ lives have much improved since leaving Mac’s abusive animal exhibit, but they find themselves in danger again with the arrival of a devastating storm. Bob has been let down by humans and believes in looking out for ‘numero uno’ and not trusting anybody, but the hurricane that tears through Ivan’s zoo might end up bringing out the hero in this jaded little dog.
Bob wasn’t as good a character as Ivan, but I still enjoyed him and his sense of humor. The hurricane storyline felt a little bit forced after the more authentic drama of the previous novel, but the author still did a good job building on Ivan and Bob’s stories. I would actually like to see a third one in this series. The One and Only Ruby?
