Title: Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell in Love
Author: Lauren Tarshis
Sequel to: Emma Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree
Number of Pages: 176
I really liked Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree, but I found the sequel to be disappointing. This book follows Colleen and Emma-Jean right where the last book left off, and the focus is on a school dance and the usually-logical Emma-Jean’s crush on her classmate Will. Colleen gets a letter from a mystery admirer, and she spends most of the book freaking out over a boy liking her. A lot of the book feels like a rehash of the last novel, and it just didn’t have the same charm as it’s predecessor.
There were no surprises and while I like the character of Emma-Jean, she isn’t given anything new to do except to crush on Will. I also didn’t think the scene where Emma-Jean asks Will to go to the dance with Colleen was plausible. Colleen acts all grateful but how could she be, when her friend essentially set her up on a pity date? I would recommend that people read the first book in the series and skip this one.
