In this satisfying conclusion to the ‘Dr. Harper’ trilogy is set at a social media festival, where the protagonist investigates several bizarre incidents. These include an vegan fanatic who tortures humans, a castrated sex offender, and a deeply paranoid clean freak. This book also puts a lot of focus on the relationship between Dr. Harper and his love interest Noah, and Noah’s sociopathic ex-girlfriend Kiera.
As usual, the interconnected stories are bizarre (and often implausible) but entertaining and the storyline is a sometimes unsteady mix of gay romance and dark psychological horror. I will say that it ended on a lot more of a positive note than I expected. I liked this at least as much as the first book and way better than the second, and I enjoyed returning to Dr. Harper and Noah’s stories. Even though I’m disappointed to have gotten to the end of the series I’m glad that it tied all the loose ends up in a fulfilling way.
